FAQ's

What does the MSD Baby Sleep Coach process look like?

1) Complete a history form for the child and if under 12mo complete 72hr of a sleep log.
2) We review all of the above in advance of our 1st meeting.
3) We have our initial consultation and together we go over all of the options  to make up the plan.
4) We pick a start date.
5) We speak with you after your first night and then every 3 days (or about 2-3 weeks depending on the package or amount of follow up support you feel you need).
6) Most sleep plans cover 2 ½ weeks and most children are dramatically improved or sleeping through the night within 7-10 days (if under 9mo) and 2 weeks (if 1-3 years old).

How do I schedule a sleep consultation?

If you are ready NOW to get the sleep your family needs and would like to schedule a consultation here is the fastest way forward:
Select the service that is right for your family. Once you select your service and remit payment, we contact you within 24hrs to schedule your private consultation. After payment, you will automatically be directed to the new client page where you will download the “new client packet’.  Before your initial consultation you will need to complete the "new client packet" which you will return 2 days before your first meeting.

Are you trained in all of the sleep coaching methods?

At MSD Baby Sleep Coach we are trained and very experienced in all sleep coaching methods not just one.  Our specialty is in the gentle sleep coaching methods. We discuss with you, the parent, your options and help you determine the method that best fits your parenting philosophy and your child’s temperament. We will discuss the pros and cons of each method, then support you though each stage of the sleep coaching process.

Can you guarantee “no crying”?

No, no one really can. For example, if you as the parent have taught your child that the way to fall asleep is to be held to sleep for all naps, bedtime and night waking then you decide that you want to change this; your child will naturally protest or resist this change. After all, they don’t know why you have changed your approach. If your child is pre-verbal then they will cry. Our goal is to have as little crying as possible. We encourage parents to be loving and responsive but to allow the child the space to learn this vital life skill of putting themselves to sleep.

How is working with a professional sleep coach different than reading a book?

A book cannot account for your family's unique circumstances.  We will create a customized plan according to your child's age, temperament and your family's needs and desires. Most of the sleep training books are geared towards one sleep training method.  If you are not sure what method is the best fit for your family, you may not get the appropriate information to make you successful.  Unlike a book, we can provide reassurance and if needed adjust your plan based on your child’s reactions. We take the confusion out of helping your little one ‘and you’ achieve a great night’s sleep.

Do I need to stop breastfeeding my child to help them learn independent sleeping skills?

Breastfeeding is best and it is never necessary to end breastfeeding in order to successfully sleep coach your child.

May I continue to room share or co-sleep while helping my child learn independent sleep skills?

Yes, if it is your goal to room share or co-sleep with your child you can still successfully achieve independent sleeping skills for your family.
